Which paper do I use?

In total, Favori Print offers you over 20 different paper types with varying thicknesses. The different paper types all vary in their surface finish, opacity, thickness, GSM (grammage) and colourfulness (varying whiteness).

Coated art paper

Grammage: 90 gsm | 115 gsm | 135 gsm | 170 gsm | 250 gsm | 350 gsm

Surface: matt or glossy, coated

We achieve the best printing results with so-called coated art paper, so called because the surface is refined with a “coating” – a bonding agent. This involves applying a specific colour coating whose main components are chalk, kaolin, casein or polymer dispersion. All papers are generally first matt after coating. To achieve a glossy effect, it then needs to be put through two high-pressure rollers called a calender. This gives the paper a very smooth, solid surface which not only feels nice, but also enables better print quality and greater detail. The colours are absorbed less, and look bold and intense.

Coated art paper, as used by us, generally has a very low volume. To attain the smooth surface, the material is compressed during production so that the volume is below 1.0.

Premium board

If the flyers need to be printed on thicker coated art paper, we offer premium cardboard with 400 gsm, which is only available in matt. Did you know - All our coated art paper is PEFC-certified.

Offset printing paper

Grammage: 80 gsm | 90 gsm | 100 gsm | 120 gsm | 350 gsm | 400 gsm

Surface: matt, uncoated, writeable (up to 120 gsm useable with home-printers)

We use another type of paper for offset printing. The uncoated offset paper is characterised by its intense 164 CIE whiteness. This printing paper is made from up to 100% cellulose and is writable. Additionally the offset paper with a grammage of up to 100 gsm can be used for printing in your home printer.

Premium special papers

Our Chamois paper (100 gsm or 300 gsm) variety uses a warm earthy colour which gives your print product a naturally classy effect in creamy white. Anyone wanting to make their flyers stand out through particular refinement can also choose bright white paper (115 gsm or 350 gsm), which also impresses with a very smooth and velvety surface.

Our selection of premium paper is rounded off with Linen-finish (130 gsm or 350 gsm) and “Ribbed” (120 gsm or 350 gsm) varieties. Not only will they ensure your flyers have a greater visual impact, but will also be unique to the touch with a really elegant linen finish or ribbing.

Eco-friendly recycling paper

Recycling paper is an environmentally friendly alternative to the aforementioned paper types. It is Blue Angel-certified and boasts excellent 133 CIE whiteness. This paper is made 100% from recycled papers and has a natural, slightly rough surface. With our recycled paper you have the choice between 80 and 300 gsm of grammage.

The printing process

The offset printing process enables larger orders to be printed at lower cost, and fonts to be printed with sharper contours. In this flat printing process, the ink is transferred from the pigmented printing plate to a rubber blanket, and then applied to the flyer. Indirect offset printing helps make your flyers more abrasion-resistant, and usually more stable and lightfast. We particularly recommend offset printing for larger orders.

Say it with colour – in which colours do you want your flyers printed?

Whether it be black and white, 4C or gold and silver, Favori Print in Great Britain offers you an extensive range of colours to print your flyers. Standard colours come in the four-colour CMYK option, while multi-colour printing using special colours is performed using Pantone Matching System (PMS) and their so-called Pantone colour fans. There are 25 colours to choose from. The PMS colours are in turn assigned to certain paper types such as coated paper (C), uncoated paper (U) and matt coated paper (M).

At Favori Print, you can both combine monochrome black printing, and enhance CMYK four-colour printing with Pantone colours. In this case it is also referred to as additional spot colours. At Favori Print, you can both combine monochrome black printing, and enhance CMYK four-colour printing with Pantone colours. This also involves additional spot colours.

1 color, 2 colors, 3 colors, And full color CMYK

As a special highlight, we offer two options for printing gold or silver inks. First the classical method in offset printing and second in digital printing. With the latter, it is also possible to use with small print runs. Printing of Gold Digital/Silver Digital is done using metallic toner with special pigments that create a reflection. As a result, it is in no way inferior to offset printing and enables metallic effects even in gradations. With the "Gold/Silver Digital" option, four-colour printing can be enhanced with gold and silver at the same time! The luxurious silver and gold decorations invite you to touch, marvel at and browse the pages and stylishly complete your professional appearance. Whether delicate highlights or full-surface printing - silver and gold inks can mean the difference between just looking at and wanting to keep. Give your print the "soft touch".

Topping off your flyer: Refining

At Favori Print, we offer you seven different options for refining your flyers and transforming them into unique products.

Lamination:

This option involves us applying a wafer-thin film to your flyer, not only enhancing its look, but also ensuring it is better protected and more robust. Special films can create additional tactile and visual effects through matting or gloss, or through velvety or linen finishes.

Coated art paper starting from 170 gsm

Relief varnish:

While blind embossing can also be felt on the back page of the flyer, the relief varnish only works on the surface. This option may be used to visually and tactilely accentuate, for example, a logo or slogan..

Coated art paper matt starting from 250 gsm

UV varnish:

This involves applying an additional layer of varnish to significantly increase your flyer’s robustness and also create impressive visual effects. The varnish can be applied across the entire flyer, or only to selected parts as UV spot varnish.

Coated art paper starting from 115 gsm

UV spot varnish:

Partial UV spot varnish, similar to the relief varnish, is just applied to certain elements on the flyer. The ultra-thin varnish layer can be used to visually highlight important information by reflecting the light more intensely.

Folding variants - The processing of flyers

In addition to the refinement options presented here, you can also further accentuate things with perforation and creasing. While our normal flyers are printed single-sided or double-sided Folded leaflets allow you to choose from different folding options such as half fold, french fold or parallel fold or a combination of fold types.

Single page flyer

The classical flyer without any creasing can be printed on one or both sides. They are, depending on format and paper, suitable to use as invitations, product information or as information material at trade fairs. The flyer can be created with any type of paper and in all kinds of formats. Optionally, we are able to add individual creasing or perforation.

Design folded leaflets and print them at Favori Print - folding variants: half fold, french fold or double gate fold Folding types: half fold flyer | french fold flyer | 8-sided double gate fold flyer

Half fold flyer

The simplest of the folding types with just one fold is the half fold. It's also called single fold as it folds the page in half. This folding type results into a 4-sided flyer that is particularly suitable for product flyers, mini-brochures, vouchers or greeting cards.

French fold flyer

This is a combination of two half folds – The page is first folded in half horizontally and then again vertically. The simplest of the french folds, with two folds, results into 8 pages. It's therefore a fitting choice for posters and maps.

Parallel fold flyers

The folded edges of this folding type run parallel to each other. Some of the parallel folds are the double gate fold, double parallel fold, the concertina fold and the trifold.

Double gate fold flyer

To create an 8-sided roll fold flyer both outer sides will be folded towards the middle, so that the outer edges touch in the middle of the flyer (6 sided gate or window fold). Afterwards the flyer is folded in the middle (where the outside edges touch). The double gate fold offers enough space for detailed information for events or new products, especially in the A4 format.

Double parallel fold flyer

The Double parallel fold is simply an extension of the single fold. The page is folded in half twice in the same direction. This results in 3 folds and 8 pages. Favori Print is also able to print a triple parallel fold flyer with 16 pages. With a format of 105 x 210 mm it offers enough space for an extensive program of events.

Trifold flyer

The panels of the trifold flyer all fold in on each other, "wrapping" around one page. The simplest form of the trifold has two folds and results in a flyer with 6 pages. Depending on the format it can be used for menus or event information pamphlets. Incase 6 pages are not enough you also have the possibility at Favori Print to print a roll fold-flyer with 3 folds and 8 pages.

FAQ for the product Flyer

1. What is the paper selection for the flyers? Which paper do the flyers consist of?

For flyers we offer bright white coated art papers. All offset papers are bright white and suitable for copying and laser printing. Our bright white recycled paper is FSC-certified and has the Blue Angel environmental seal. You can also choose from our special premium papers (chamois, ribbed, bright white, linen). We offer all types of paper in different paper thicknesses and grammages. Most flyers are ordered with 135 gsm picture printing paper.

2. Which flyer formats are available at Favori Print?

Which format is right for you depends on the amount of your information, the purpose and the target group of your flyer. In the selection box of the configuration menu you can see what we offer for standard formats. From A3 to A8 as well as intermediate sizes and square or long flyer formats, everything is represented. Your desired format is not included? Then click on "Special format" in the configuration menu to the right of "Format" and define your special format. Make sure that your format is within the standard dimensions of 52 x 52 mm and 297 x 420 mm.

3. What is the difference between a leaflet and a flyer?

Flyers are 1-sided, leaflets have at least 2 sides and are folded. The number of pages always refers to the processed (e.g. folded) finished flyers in their final state. Please note that certain types of folds are only offered from a certain grammage due to their quality (e.g. altar folds from 170 gsm).

4. How much do 1.000 flyers cost?

That all depends on how many pages, which format and paper you have selected and whether you want a refinement. 1,000 pieces of our A6 flyer (with 135 gsm picture printing paper, untreated, 4-colour print and 2-sided) can be obtained for only £14.91 including shipping and VAT. Simply select from the configuration menu which features your flyer should have, the price is always updated when you change a setting and is clearly visible next to the shipping price.

5. How long do I have to wait for my flyers to arrive?

Select between Standard, Express or Priority delivery time options. The estimated delivery time is displayed directly in the configuration menu. Please note, however, that the delivery time of your flyers also depends on selected extras and quantity. With our fastest shipping method - Priority Shipping - you can receive your flyers within 24 hours (for an additional charge).

6. Which trim do I have to consider with flyers?

The bleed allowance for flyers is 2 mm on each side. Nevertheless, the print file should not go exactly to the bleed edge, but beyond it. This avoids the unavoidable irregularities that can result from cutting and punching. But do not place important elements and lettering too close to the bleed edge so that they are not trimmed. We also have a great tutorial on this topic on our blog: How to achieve better print results with bleed

7. What does "Print flyer with spot colour" mean? What is Pantone?

As standard printing inks, we offer four-colour printing in CMYK. Cyan, magenta and yellow are the basic colours of subtractive colour mixing. Black must be added, as it is not possible to produce pure black from these basic colours. Pantone is a colour system for spot and process colours. They are specially mixed and do not consist of the standard process colours cyan, magenta, yellow or black. Each spot colour results in an additional colour separation for printing. The individual spot colours can be determined with the aid of colour guides and colour tables. The Pantone colour system is used for gold and silver. However, the metallic effect can only be guaranteed with 100% ink application. Graduations in the colours lead to a loss. For Pantone colours, a separate colour channel must be created when creating the print data for the corresponding objects. Please always create the spot colors in a separate spot color channel and label it according to the spot color you have ordered. Only the ordered tone can be printed.

8. Can standard and special colours be combined for flyers?

With Favori Print, monochrome and CMYK four-colour printing possible.

9. What should you pay attention to when designing the flyer?

Create your flyers with us in the Photoshop, InDesign etc. at your place. Make sure to include the bleed and to create the print data at least in 300dpi as PDF, JPEG or TIFF in CMYK colour mode with the colour profile "ISO Coated v2 (Fogra 39 L)" for coated art paper and "PSO Uncoated ISO12647 (Fogra 47L)" for offset or recycling paper

10. Can I view my finished flyer before printing?

The "Screenproof" option gives you the opportunity (for a small surcharge) to see for yourself how your flyer will look before printing. This means that you can preview your product in your MyOrders folder in the Favori Print customer account in a resolution of 150 dpi. The preview of the screen proofs is not colourfast, deviations are possible. If you would like to see the actual colouring of the flyer in advance, select the "Paperproof" option. In this case, we will send you a colour-binding, Fogra-certified pre-print of your flyer on the next working day. The costs for a paper proof as well as the delivery time will be displayed directly online during the selection process.
